Albert "Al" Samuel Waxman , CM , O.Ont (born March 2, 1935 in Toronto , Ontario ; † January 18, 2001 ibid) was a Canadian actor and director . His pseudonym was Stan Ferris .

Life

Waxman came from a Jewish family of emigrants from Poland . From the age of twelve he worked for the Canadian radio station CBC / Radio-Canada as a speaker for radio plays and radio productions. From 1959 he received several small supporting roles in various television productions. He became known to the general public with the character of Larry King , the King of Kensington . For this depiction, a life-size statue of him was placed in memory of Kensington Market in Toronto. In the German-speaking area he was given the role of Lt. Bert Samuels in the series Cagney & Lacey .

His work as a director included various television productions, especially individual series episodes between 1969 and 1994. In 1996 he was awarded the Order of Canada for his work to promote the performing arts. During his career he received the Canadian Gemini Award in 1997 and the Earle Gray Award in 1998 for Lifetime Achievement .

Waxman died in 2001 of complications from a heart attack . He was married and had two sons.
