A Mountie in Chicago or Chicago of all places (original title: Due South) is a Canadian - American television series from 1994.
production
Originally only a TV film was planned, but thanks to good reviews and keen audience interest, the decision was made to produce a series. The name of the series changed from the second season from Chicago, of all places, to Ein Mountie in Chicago, as the broadcasting rights had changed from RTL II to ProSieben .
The series was discontinued by CBS in 1996 due to poor audience ratings after only two seasons, but the rights were resold a year later, so that from 1997 onwards two more seasons of the series, which is popular in Europe, are produced with financial support from three European broadcasters, including ProSieben could.
action
Constable Benton Fraser (named after the Fraser River in British Columbia ) of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and his wolf Diefenbaker (named after John Diefenbaker ) are looking for his father's murderer in the city of Chicago . Here he soon meets Detective Vecchio, who is a friend who is at his side in the search for the murderer. Because Constable Fraser uncovered corruption in the ranks of the RCMP while investigating the murder of his father, he became a persona non grata in Canada . Therefore, Benton stays in Chicago and soon devotes himself to crime in that city. In an amusing way, it becomes clear that the Canadian Mounties have different investigative methods than the Chicago police.
background
From the third season David Marciano was exchanged as Ray Vecchio for Callum Keith Rennie aka Stanley Kowalski. This was explained by the fact that Vecchio was used as an undercover agent and Kowalski slipped into his identity and henceforth acted as Vecchio.
