I Am You and You Are Me is a 1999 American television comedy .
action
Sara and her husband, the footballer Dan, are going through a marital crisis. Both underestimate each other's area of responsibility and would like more recognition. When Dan becomes the Saints' new quarterback , the family has to move to New Orleans , where they now live in an old, dilapidated mansion. In the attic, the children Annette and Clark find old voodoo utensils that once belonged to the previous owner, Aunt Fanny. Of course they want to save their parents' marriage, which is why they try the magic. But contrary to the disappointment that they might not work, Sara and Dan wake up the next morning in each other's body.
As a result, each of the two must now grapple with the life of the other and the problems that arise from it. In the course of time, because they depend more than ever on the advice and support of their partner, they grow closer and learn to understand and respect the other. They no longer argue so much and treat each other more lovingly, just as the children had imagined. If only it weren't for the wrong body! The children finally confess their sorcery. Another magic session tries to swap personalities again. At first the attempt seems to have failed. Only when the parents confess their rediscovered love and kiss each other is the whole spook over. Not so their problems, because Dan has a crucial football game ahead of him and Sara is heavily pregnant and each of them has to get used to their own bodies again. But everything turns out for the better. The game is won, Sara gives birth to a healthy child and everyone is happy.
criticism
"Fantasy fairy tale, which shows the role reversal in the usual framework, but uses the story to question gender clichés in an amusing way and to question family structures."
“Ex-star director Peter Bogdanovich (' The last performance ', ' Is' what, Doc? ') Succeeded in creating a lively mix of fantasy sex and family drama. [...] Hearty fantasy fun with a serious undertone. "
