Mark Douglas Lutz (born February 14, 1970 in Montréal , Québec ) is a Canadian actor .

Life

Lutz was born in Montréal, the oldest of four children, but moved to Hong Kong at the age of 13 , where he lived for four years before returning to Toronto to finish high school. He then studied at the University of Guelph , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree with honors in political science . Shortly after graduating, Lutz started working in the entertainment industry. At first he was booked primarily in the field of improvisational comedy. An agent noticed him and within the next seven years Lutz's name was featured in over 40 credits of films and television series. His best-known role was that of hockey player Jukka Branny-Acke in Power Play (1998). In 1999 he played agent McDaniel in the dramatic action series Nikita in episode 3.17 Degraded ( Third Party Ripoff ). In January 2001, Lutz moved to Los Angeles , where he was cast shortly afterwards in the role of Groosalugg in Angel . This role also made him known far beyond the Canadian borders.

In addition to his acting talent, Lutz is also a very talented swimmer. From elementary school to university, he competed in swimming competitions and swam at the Pointe Claire Swim Club . He set new Canadian national records and new Ontario high school records. He also took part in international swimming competitions for his country, including world championships and the Olympic Trials , the selection tests for the Olympic Games . However, he had to end his swimming career early in his early 20s due to a shoulder injury.

Lutz wrote the screenplay for the film Victor, about the successful Canadian swimmer Victor Davis , who died in a car accident at the age of 25. He also starred and co-produced.
