NY - Streets of Death (Alternative title: Naked City - A celebration for a killer ; Original title: Naked City: A Killer Christmas ) is an American television movie - thriller from the year 1998 . Directed by Peter Bogdanovich , the script was written by Jeff Freilich and Christopher Trumbo .

A series of murders happened in New York City just before Christmas. The perpetrator kidnaps people, makes realistic masks of their faces and commits murders among them. After some time, the alleged perpetrators are killed and their suicides staged; one is lynched by the angry crowd.

Police officer Scott Muldoon and his colleague James Halloran are investigating. The case generated a lot of media interest. In the end, the serial killer is caught by Muldoon.

Reviews

Cinema magazine wrote that the “remarkable” film was “tough, direct and harmonious in the atmosphere” . The director tells a story that is “clever, style-conscious and experienced” , which is “based on the film noir classic“ City without a Mask ”” from 1947 and the television series based on it.

The editors of www.kino.de wrote that the film was “a tricky, intricately conceived and excitingly implemented police thriller with a layer of reality and critical swipes at sensational media nonsense” . Scott Glenn is "the role of the unadjusted outsider cop as tailor-made" .

The magazine TV direkt 3/2008 wrote that the script only allowed mediocrity.
