The innocence of Molly (alternative title: Everything because of Molly ! , Molly and the unlucky raven , For Molly through hell ; Original title: Illegally Yours ) is an American comedy film by Peter Bogdanovich from 1988 .

action

Richard Dice is named to the jury . He is used in the criminal case against Molly Gilbert, with whom he fell in love while at school. Dice lies in court that he doesn't know her.

Already on the first day of the trial, Dice realizes that several crooks are after Molly. However, he does not initially realize what role his childhood sweetheart is playing in the murder case. Dice investigates on his own. A music cassette, on which a conversation involved in the murder was recorded as evidence, accidentally fell into the hands of Molly. A short time later, however, this cassette came back from Molly's possession and ultimately ends up in the hands of the jury Dice, who can thus prove Molly's innocence in the plot and at the same time convict the actual murderer.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was conceived as a " homage to the screwball comedies" . It "fails because the story gets bogged down in its own confusions" . The “insecure direction” confuses slapstick with slapstick and “puns with loquacity” .

David Nusair wrote on Reel Film Reviews that the film was "saturated" with a "frenetic" , " madcap" style that was supposed to be reminiscent of the screwball comedies of the 1930s. He is nowhere near funny. The portrayal of Rob Lowe seems "tiresome" and "offensive" . It is amazing how bad the film is “despite the talents on both sides of the camera” .

background

The film was shot in Florida . It grossed around 259,000 US dollars in cinemas in the United States .
