Iain Paterson

Iain Paterson (* 1973 ) is a Scottish opera and concert singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Iain Paterson grew up in Glasgow and studied voice and violin at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama . He sang in the Opera North choir for four years before making his debut in 2007 with the role of Fasolt at the Salzburg Easter Festival under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle .

Paterson has sung the role of Gunther ( Götterdämmerung ) at the Metropolitan Opera , New York , the Paris Opéra and the Bavarian State Opera . In addition to Fasolt, he sang Jochanaan ( Salome ) at the Salzburg Festival . Paterson made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 2015 as Kurwenal ( Tristan und Isolde ) and also sang the role of Wotan ( Das Rheingold ) in 2016/17 . At concerts, Iain Paterson has sung Hans Sachs in the Meistersinger von Nürnberg with the Hallé Orchestra , as well as Wotan under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim at the BBC Proms and Beethoven's Ninth with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra , the Cleveland Orchestra , the Hallé Orchestra, the BBC Symphony and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra .
