Tarzan, the lord of the jungle (Original title: Tarzan, the Ape Man ) is an American feature film from 1959 by Joseph Newman . Denny Miller played the title role of the character invented by Edgar Rice Burroughs . In Germany the film was first shown in cinemas on December 22, 1959.

With the help of the Watussi warrior Riano, the adventurer Harry Holt, Colonel Parker and his daughter Jane, who has just arrived from London , set out in search of the mysterious elephant cemetery . The bracelet of the African warrior shows them the way.
When the group is attacked by angry elephants , Jane flees from one of the animals in the jungle. Tarzan saves her from the elephant running amok and brings her to his tree house. There, after initial skepticism, Jane quickly befriends Tarzan. When Parker finds his daughter, he thinks she is in danger. Holt shoots one of Tarzan's tame chimpanzees to free Jane. Tarzan, who is chasing the group, is slightly injured by Holt from a grazing shot.
Despite the hostile behavior, Tarzan warns Parker and Holt of a warlike native tribe. Tarzan can repel an attack by the tribe by triggering a stampede in a herd of antelope with his scream . The native warriors flee.
When Holt refuses to stop looking for the ivory at Parker's request , Tarzan knocks him down. Jane is unsettled by this wild behavior and she scares off Tarzan. The search continues. After marching on over Kilimanjaro , Parker, Jane and Holt arrive at a ruined city . While exploring an ancient temple, you will be trapped by a tribe of pygmies . In the following sacrificial ritual , Parker falls into the fire. Tarzan manages to trample down the tribe's village with a herd of elephants and free Holt and Jane. One of the elephants is fatally injured by a spear. By following him, Tarzan, Jane and Holt find their way to the secret elephant cemetery. Jane stays with Tarzan in the jungle.
