Gene Ruggiero

Eugenio "Gene" Ruggiero (born June 20, 1910 in North Hempstead , New York ; † February 19, 2002 in Ogden , Utah ) was an American film editor who once won the Oscar for best editing and the award for the lifetime ( ACE Career Achievement Award ) of the American Cinema Editors received.

Life

Originally from an Italian immigrant family, Ruggiero began his career as an editor in the Hollywood film industry in 1939 for the film Tarzan and his son and worked in the field of film editing in the production of more than seventy films and television series .

At the Academy Awards in 1956 he was nominated together with George Boemler for the Oscar for best editing in the musical film Oklahoma! (1955) by Fred Zinnemann with Gordon MacRae , Gloria Grahame and Gene Nelson in the lead roles .

An Oscar in this category he won in 1957 along with Paul Weatherwax for after the novel Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne created monumental film in 80 days around the world (1956) by directors Michael Anderson and John Farrow with David Niven , Cantinflas and Shirley MacLaine .

In 1994 he received along with Dede Allen of the Guild of American Cinema Editors ( American Cinema Editors ) the award for his life's work ( ACE Career Achievement Award ).
