Dede Allen
Dede Allen (born December 3, 1923 in Cleveland , Ohio , † April 17, 2010 in Los Angeles ; actually Dorothea Carothers Allen ) was an American film editor .
Live and act
Before making her career as an editor in the film business, she worked first as a messenger and then as an assistant editor for Columbia Pictures . She then worked as an editor for advertising films until she finally cut her first feature film in 1958, Terror from the Year 5000 .
The 1967 shot Bonnie and Clyde meant the first collaboration with director Arthur Penn ; others followed. In 1973 she worked with Sidney Lumet for the first time on the film editing of Serpico . For the joint film Hundstage , Dede Allen was nominated for the first time in 1976 for the Oscar in the category Best Editing . She was also awarded the British Film Prize for this.
The 1981 film Reds , in which she was also involved as an executive producer, earned her her second Oscar nomination. In 2001 she was nominated for the third time for The WonderBoys for this award.
In 1994 Allen received the Career Achievement Award from the American Cinema Editors . Five years later she received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards .
She had been married to television producer and screenwriter Stephen Fleischman since 1945 and had two children. Son Tom Fleischman , born in 1951, works as a sound engineer and engineer in the film business.
