Mike Henry (actor)
Michael Dennis "Mike" Henry (born August 15, 1936 in Los Angeles , California ) is a retired American football player and actor .
Life and accomplishments
Mike Henry played from 1959 as a linebacker on the defensive for the Pittsburgh Steelers . In 1962 he moved to the Los Angeles Rams within the NFL . In his career, which lasted until 1964, he completed 76 games.
Warner Bros. producers took notice of the muscular defender. Henry had his first acting experience in 1957 when he played a small role in the crime film Curfew Breakers . In 1963, two small roles followed in the TV series General Hospital and 77 Sunset Strip , as well as two film roles in Summer of Expectation and In Paradise The Devil Is Going . He was not mentioned in the credits of the latter two roles.
In 1965 he took over the role of the jungle hero Tarzan from Jock Mahoney . American International Pictures produced Tarzan and the Golden City in 1966 . In 1967 Henry played Tarzan again, this time for Paramount Pictures in Tarzan on the Great River . 1968 followed Tarzan and the jungle boy , again produced by Paramount. He turned down NBC's offer to play the role in the planned television series . The role went to Ron Ely .
In the following years, Henry took on supporting roles in movies. He was seen in 1968 in the war film The Green Devils at the side of John Wayne and in 1969 as Luke Santee in Killer Cain . In 1970 he played again on the side of John Wayne in the western classic Rio Lobo . This was followed by other small roles in Hell's End Station (1972) and … the year 2022… who want to survive (1973), both with Charlton Heston . In 1974, Henry starred opposite Burt Reynolds in the prison football team action film The Hardest Mile . He starred with Fred Williamson in the 1976 action film The Mafia Knows No Mercy , the Western Adios Amigo and the thriller No Way Back .
Henry got a bigger role in 1977 in the action comedy A Boiled Rascal with Burt Reynolds. He played the role of Junior Justice, which he repeated in the 1980 sequel Das Auskochte Schlitzohr is back on the road and also in 1983 in Das Auskochte Schlitzohr III . In 1987 he took on a film role for the last time. This time it was a small supporting role as a Russian in the comedy Nothing but Trouble with the Guy .
Mike Henry has also appeared in a number of TV series. In 1970 he played in an episode of the western series Daniel Boone . This was followed by appearances in Dan Oakland (1970), The Six Million Dollar Man (1974 and 1975), Rhoda (1976), M * A * S * H (1977), Lou Grant (1977) and Fantasy Island (1981 ).
After he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1988 , Henry retired into private life. He has been married to Cheryl Sweeney since 1984.
