Ames and Brozinsky are looking for a mutual lover, first exchanging hostilities. It turns out that Sanders is a double agent for the secret services who wants to steal a toxic substance for the KGB . He is also wanted by the CIA .

A meeting is arranged at which Ames takes the substance as well as the money. Sanders is killed. The women become friends and appear together in the play Hamlet , in which Ames plays the prince.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of January 30, 1987 that the film was too busy mixing genres. The plot contains - as in many failed scripts - too many clichés such as CIA, Russians and car chases.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "peppy, sometimes somewhat crude comedy that parodies the agent film genre with lots of action and original gags". He captivates "above all with a careful book and the irresistible game of the two dissimilar leading actresses".

Awards

Bette Midler was nominated in 1988 for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Comedy or Musical . It won the American Comedy Award in 1988 . Alan Silvestri received the BMI Film Music Award in 1988 .

backgrounds

The film was shot in Los Angeles , New York City , New Jersey, and various locations in New Mexico . It grossed approximately $ 52.86 million in US cinemas . Former Tarzan actor Mike Henry can be seen in his last, uncredited film role .
