Anthony Heald

Philip Anthony Mair Heald (born August 25, 1944 in New Rochelle , New York ) is an American actor .

Life

Heald grew up on Long Island in Massapequa Park, New York .

After graduating from school, Heald studied at Michigan State University . During his studies, which he finished in 1971, he made his first appearances in a theater group. For the next 15 years he worked mainly in the theater. After appearing on Broadway, he was nominated twice for the Tony Award , once for his role in the play Love! Valor! Compassion! and for his appearance in the musical Anything Goes .

From the beginning of the 1980s, Heald was also active as an actor in movies and on television, initially taking on mostly minor supporting roles. He was introduced to a larger audience in the role of the institution's director Dr. Frederick Chilton known in the film The Silence of the Lambs . From 2000 he took on one of the leading roles in the series Boston Public by producer David E. Kelley . He played there the slightly choleric assistant principal Scott Guber .

In 2002 he took over the role of Dr. again in Roter Drache , a prequel to The Silence of the Lambs . Chilton. Due to the success in the role of the institution director and Hannibal Lecter opponent, Heald was increasingly committed to roles as a shady villain (see type casting ). The constant role offers bored him increasingly. He doesn't want to keep playing "the scum in the suit". From 2007 he turned to the theater again in order to be able to play more varied roles. In 2008, he took over the role of the game leader in Thornton Wilder's play Our Town . The following year he played William Shagspeare in Bill Cain's play Equivocation . As part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2010, Heald took on the role of the Jewish moneylender Shylock in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice .

In addition to his work as an actor, Heald also works as a spokesperson for the production of audio books .

After years in New York and Los Angeles, Heald moved his family to rural Oregon in 1996 . He lives there with his wife Robin Herskowitz-Heald in the small town of Ashland . The couple have a daughter and a son.
