Jock Mahoney

Jock Mahoney (born February 7, 1919 in Chicago , Illinois , † December 14, 1989 in Bremerton , Washington ) was an American actor and stuntman .

Life

Mahoney had French and Irish ancestry. He graduated from the University of Iowa , but dropped out and joined the United States Marine Corps during World War II . He later moved to Los Angeles and worked as a stunt double for Gregory Peck , Errol Flynn and John Wayne , among others . From 1948 he was mostly seen in westerns in which he took on minor or unnamed minor roles. From 1951 to 1953 he played the lead role in the television series The Range Rider in 78 episodes. In 1958 and 1959 he played the leading role alongside X Brands and Frances Bergen in 34 episodes of the western series Yancy Derringer filmed by CBS . After portraying the villain Coy Banton in Tarzan the mighty in 1960 , he became the thirteenth Tarzan actor two years later in two feature films . Until 1984 he was also seen as a guest star in various television series, including four episodes of the series Tarzan with Ron Ely .

In the opening and closing credits, he was often performed as Jack Mahoney or Jock O'Mahoney .

Mahoney was married three times, had three biological children and five stepchildren. From 1952 to 1968 he was married to the actress Margaret Field , making him the stepfather of her daughter Sally Field . In her 2018 biography In Pieces , Sally Field stated that she had been sexually abused by Jack Mahoney on a number of occasions until she was 14.
