Yancy Derringer is an American western series produced in 34 episodes between 1958 and 1959, with Jock Mahoney in the title role and X Brands as co-star. In the 1967 and 1969 German premieres of one season each with 13 episodes, only 26 episodes were shown.
action
The always finely dressed gentleman, gambler and former southern officer Yancy Derringer is the owner of the riverboat Sultana in post- Civil War New Orleans . He does secret assignments for former Northerner and current City Councilor John Colton to maintain law and order. Towards the end of an episode, Derringer often sits in jail for violating rules or laws in successfully completing his assignments, but the cell door generally remains unlocked.
Yancy Derringer is armed with a four-barreled Sharps Deringer in his hat and a Deringer attached to a quick -release device in his sleeve; he carries a knife for this.
Fighting at his side is the silent Pawnee Indian Pahoo-Ka-Ta-Wah, who saved Derringer's life in the time before the events of the series and who now feels responsible for him. The Indian, whose name is abbreviated as Pahoo in some episodes, hides a double-barreled, sawn-off shotgun under his cloak for emergencies . He often uses his throwing knife behind his shoulder , which he can pull out quickly and throw accurately. Derringer and Pahoo live on Derringer's Waverly Plantation.
Derringer is also repeatedly supported by Madame Francine, the owner of an arcade in New Orleans.
