Claude Marion Akins (born May 25, 1918 in Nelson , Georgia , † January 27, 1994 in Altadena , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Akins was a tall, broad-shouldered film actor who played the tough guys, good or bad, mostly in westerns and crime films. He never belonged to the first guard of Hollywood stars , but played supporting roles in over 100 films and dozens of television series. His appearances in western series also contributed to his popularity. He came to Hollywood after World War II and played his first small role in the 1953 film adaptation of the novel For All Eternity . In the decades that followed, Akins appeared as a supporting actor in movie classics such as The Caine Was Her Fate , Rio Bravo , Who Sows the Wind, and The Battle for the Planet of the Apes .

In Germany he was best known for his leading role in the television series Movin 'On (1974-1976), which ran here under the title Adventure of the Landstrasse in the ARD evening program, in which he played the trucker Sonny Pruitt . From 1979 to 1981 Akins played in 39 episodes the idiot with star Sheriff Elroy S. Lobo in the series Sheriff Lobo , a spin-off from BJ and the Bear (1979-1981).

Akins was married for over 40 years and had three children.

Akins died of stomach cancer in Pasadena, California. It was believed that he was born in 1918 and reached his age at 75; However, Akins' son said his father was born in 1926.
