Claudelle and her lovers is an American drama from 1961. The screenplay is based on the novel of the same name by Erskine Caldwell .
action
Claudelle is the daughter of the farmer Clyde Inglish in Georgia. The young woman is in love with the farmer boy Linn Varner. Claudelle's mother, Jessie, who sees her own past in poverty, wants her daughter to marry the wealthy farmer Crawford. But Claudelle refuses and remains loyal to Linn, even when he is drafted into the army.
When Linn writes that he wants to marry another woman, Claudelle becomes a tomboy. She begins an affair with Dennis Peasley, the son of a businessman. Dennis falls in love with Claudelle, but she begins to accept gifts from other men in town for her favors. Dennis' father is among the patrons. When Claudelle's father learns of his daughter's reputation, he reproaches her. Claudelle counters with the news that her mother was seen red-handed with Crawford in a parked car.
A fist fight breaks out between Dennis and Rip Guyler, the rough leg over Claudelle. The fight ends with the death of Dennis, who is run over by Rip's car. The next morning a sad Claudelle informs her father that Jessie has left the house. Sobered up, father and daughter decide to move away and start a new life. Harley Peasley, unable to get over the death of his son, arrives at the farm. He blames Claudelle for Dennis' death and shoots her down. Clyde rushes back into the house and holds his dying daughter in his arms.
