Eutelsat 117 West A (formerly: Satmex 8) is a commercial communications satellite from Satélites Mexicanos SA de CV.It replaced Satmex 5 .
The satellite was under the original name Satmex 8 on March 26, 2013 at 19:07 UTC with a Proton-M / Briz-M - carrier rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in a geostationary transfer orbit km with a perigee of 6146, an apogee of 35,803 km and an inclination of 18.36 °. With the help of five ignitions of the Bris-M upper stage, the satellite was placed in its target orbit 9 hours and 13 minutes after take-off.
The three-axis stabilized satellite with 40 Ku-Band - (+ 6 Reserve) and 24 C-band - transponders (13 Reserve thereto) equipped and is intended on the position of 116.8 degrees West from the American continent with television and radio programs as well as telecommunication services supply. It was built on the basis of the LS-1300 satellite bus from Space Systems / Loral and has a planned service life of 15 years.
After the operator Satmex was taken over by Eutelsat , the satellite was renamed Eutelsat 117 West A in May 2014.
