Eutelsat Hot Bird 13E (previously Eutelsat 9A, Eurobird 9A and Hot Bird 7A ) is a television satellite of the European Telecommunications Satellite Organization ( Eutelsat ) based in Paris. With the start of Hot Bird 9 on December 20, 2008, Hot Bird 7A was superseded, moved to 9 ° East and renamed Eurobird 9A. On March 1, 2012, Eutelsat standardized the names of its satellites around the brand name, since then it has been known as Eutelsat 9A . In 2016, the satellite was moved to 13 ° East and renamed Eutelsat Hot Bird 13E.

history

The launch from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana took place on March 11, 2006. Hot Bird 7A replaced Hot Bird 1 at 13 ° East. The satellite developed by Alcatel Alenia Space weighs around 4100 kg and is designed for an operating time of 15 years.

Hot Bird 7A was the replacement satellite for the Hot Bird 7, which was destroyed in 2002 during a failed launch on board an Ariane 5 ECA rocket .

reception

Reception is possible in North Africa , the Middle East or Middle East and Europe . The transmission takes place in the Ku band . In addition to the transmission of TV and radio programs, multimedia and Internet services are also offered via Eurobird 9A .

At the end of 2011, around 350 TV channels, including more than 50 HDTV channels, were broadcast via 9 ° East. For broadcasters, the location is very attractive due to its low-cost tariffs and the proximity to the Hot Bird satellites at 13 ° East. This means that the TV programs in both positions can be received with a simple installation of ClipSat with just one satellite antenna (see multifeed ).

In 2009, Eutelsat launched Europe's first permanent 3D TV demo channel via Eutelsat 9A. This permanent 3D channel is used for testing purposes. The aim is to analyze the performance of screens, encoders and decoders and to give players in this new area the opportunity to better grasp the potential of this technology.

Eutelsat KabelKiosk

Eutelsat Hot Bird 13E is also the home of the program and service platform KabelKiosk . Eutelsat KabelKiosk supplies the headends of more than 270 cable and IP network operators in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Denmark with German and international TV programs with a technical range of over 3.7 million digital households. A small free-to-air package of German private broadcasters has existed here since November 2013.
