List of geostationary satellites |
Astra 2E is a commercial communications satellite from SES Global (formerly SES-Astra - Société Européenne des Satellites-Astra) based in Betzdorf in Luxembourg .
It was placed in geostationary orbit on September 29, 2013 at 21:38 UTC by a Proton-M launcher from the Baikonur rocket launch site. Thus, despite the lower letter in the name, the satellite launched a year later than the Astra 2F .
Since 2015, Astra 2E has made capacities available to Eutelsat , which are marketed under the satellite name Eutelsat 28E.
The three-axis stabilized satellite with 60 Ku-band - and four Ka-band - transponders equipped and should (band Ka) of a position from 28.2 to 28.5 degrees East, Europe and the Middle East with broadband services and television (Ku -band). It was based on the satellite bus euro E3000 by Astrium built and has a design life of 15 years.
reception
Astra 2E has three illumination zones in the Ku band :
- The UK-Spotbeam Spotbeam is basically a little larger than that of Astra 2F, but drops off significantly more at the edge. With both Astra 2E and 2F, the UK spot beams are supposed to ensure that the BBC and ITV programs (“ Freesat ”) cannot be received outside of Great Britain, or only with great effort. To the chagrin of foreign viewers, this works much better than with the predecessors Astra 1N and Astra 2D . The changeover for the BBC took place on the night of February 6, 2014 for ITV on the night of February 11, 2014.
- The European beam is similar to that of Astra 2F, but according to the operating company in eastern Germany and Austria and in western Czech Republic, it is weaker than the latter. Compared to the predecessor Astra 1N, but also Astra 2A and Eutelsat 28A , the European footprint of Astra 2E and 2F are smaller, especially towards Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. In contrast to the Astra 2F, the changeover was not accompanied by a significant increase in the code rate. The channels were switched from February 4, 2014, but many of the 1N's transponders did not switch to Astra 2E, but to Astra 2A .
- While Astra 2F has an Africa beam, Astra 2E has a beam for the Arabian Peninsula . There is no significant use of either.
