Eutelsat 9B is a commercial communications satellite of the European company Eutelsat based in Paris .

It was placed in geostationary orbit on January 27, 2016 at 10:20 UTC with a Proton M launcher from the Baikonur rocket launch site .

The three-axis stabilized satellite is equipped with 60 Ku-band transponders and is supposed to provide television from the position 9 ° East from Europe. Four of the transponders are regionally oriented. It was built on the basis of the Airbus Defense and Space Eurostar-3000 satellite bus and has a planned service life of 15 years. He was appointed in October 2011. In addition to its communications payload for Eutelsat, it will also carry the first data relay payload for the European Data Relay Satellite System ( EDRS ). Compared to satellites such as Astra 2E , the spot beams only drop slightly at the edge. However, since the Nordic-Baltic and Italian footprints share the same frequency range, occupied transponders outside their intended range are deleted at the same time.
