action
When the hunter de Groot shoots an elephant cub, Tarzan rescues the animal, treats it with a healing tree resin, known as jungle medicine, and takes it to the rescue station. The hunters are frustrated with the meager results of their hunt. Most of the animals are on the other side of the river in the lands of the Sukulus. The Sukulus tribe worships all animals and lives isolated from civilization . The only contact with the outside world is Dr. Celliers, who brings medicine to the natives and tends to the sick. The poacher Reeves is sent across the river by his leader Burger to investigate the situation. When he kills an elephant there, he is captured by the Sukulus and thrown into the lions' den.
Tarzan, who has meanwhile arrived at the rescue station with the injured elephant, is supported by Dr. Celliers asked to get something from the jungle medicine because he needed it for a sick person. Tarzan is on his way immediately. In Tarzan's absence, Burger and de Groot arrive at the rescue station, they pretend to be cameramen for the UN and want to accompany Celliers on his trip to the tribe. With this ruse they hope to get to the Sukulu area unmolested. After speaking for a while from the nurse Jill, Celliers finally agrees. De Groot discovers the injured elephant he has shot and orders the porter Malenki to kidnap him. Malenki is caught by Jill, who learns that Burger and de Groot are not cameramen but hunters. She makes her way to Sukulu Land to warn the doctor.
When Tarzan brings the medicine to the supply station, the assistant tells of the events. Tarzan immediately sets off and is able to save Jill, whose car got stuck, from sinking into the quicksand in time. Celliers, Burger and de Groot have now arrived in the Sukulu area. While the doctor is going into the village, the hunters have isolated themselves and drive the animals across the river with noise from cars. Tarzan and Jill report about the lying hunters in the village, but they arrive too late because a military conflict between Sukulus and the hunters has already started. Thus, Celliers and Jill are sentenced to death by the medicine man for having brought the hunters across the river.
Burger's plan works, the animals leave, driven across the river by the noise of the cars, but Tarzan calls the animals back with his jungle scream. Burger and de Groot are trampled down by a herd of elephants. The chief sees the situation and is grateful to Tarzan. But he can no longer prevent Jill and Celliers from being thrown into the lions' den. During the scuffle, the medicine man also falls into the pit. Tarzan saves the three from the den of lions and the chief revokes the death sentence.
