Life
Donald Theophilus Beddoe was the son of the famous Welsh Dan Beddoe, who was also a professor at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati . Don Beddoe grew up in New York City and Cincinnati , Ohio . Originally he wanted to study journalism, but instead he discovered his interest in acting, which he initially lived out in amateur theater groups. Beddoe made his Broadway debut on September 20, 1929 in the play Nigger Rich (The Big Shot) . Before he regularly starred in films such as Golden Boy , The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt and Charlie Chan auf Kreuzfahrt from 1939 , he was on stage several times in plays such as The Greeks Had a Word for It and Father Malachy's Miracle .
During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps . He then resumed his acting career, starring in films such as The Best Years of Our Lives , The Hunter's Night and The Ruler of Cornwall . He also took on roles in television series such as Perry Mason and A Thousand Miles of Dust from the 1950s . Don Beddoe played a variety of often comical supporting roles, mostly good-natured, but occasionally also malicious. He had one of his few leading roles in the 1961 children's film Boy Who Caught a Crook . Beddoe retired from acting in 1984 after portraying Doc Cathey in the Drew Denbaum- directed drama Nickel Mountain .
Beddoe died on January 19, 1991 at the age of 87. He was married twice in his life: in his first marriage from 1943 until her death in 1974 to Jessie Evelyn Sebring, in his second marriage from 10 August 1974 until his death to the actress Joyce Mathews .
