Bob Bruce Ashton

Bob Bruce Ashton (born January 2, 1921 in Omaha / Nebraska , † November 14, 2006 in Springfield / Missouri ) was an American composer and music teacher.

Ashton studied at Peru State College in Nebraska (Bachelor), Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield (Master of Arts) and completed postgraduate studies at the University of Nebraska , the University of Missouri and the University of Colorado Denver . During the Second World War he served in the US Army.

From 1946 he taught instrumental and vocal music in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado and Missouri. For fourteen years he was in charge of Summerscape, a support program for children and adolescents at Drury University , and for two years he taught composition at Southwest Missouri State University. In total, Ashton composed more than 800 works. In 1964, his album Songs of Living Faith was nominated for a Grammy Award . In 1972 he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame .
