Cesare Danova

Cesare Danova (actually: Cesare Deitinger ; born March 1, 1926 in Bergamo , † March 19, 1992 in Los Angeles ) was an Italian film actor .

Life

Cesare Deitinger, the son of Austrian parents, originally wanted to become a doctor, but quickly changed his mind when he was discovered by Dino De Laurentiis . In order not to get disadvantages after the end of the Second World War , he changed his German-sounding family name to Danova . After nearly 20 films that Danova made in Italy, he turned his back on Europe and emigrated to America in the mid-1950s. How quickly he had established himself in the USA is shown by the fact that only four years later, in 1959, he was William Wyler's second choice for the title role in Ben Hur , but had to leave the part to Charlton Heston . His best-known feature film at that time was nevertheless a monumental film - Cleopatra , in which Danova played the film slave Elizabeth Taylor in 1963 .

Alongside Anthony Quinn, Danova was the first choice when it came to casting Mediterranean characters in films and television series of the 1960s and 1970s. His best-known television series included Bonanza , Solo for ONCEL , Charlie's Angels , Trapper John, MD , Hart but cordially , Airwolf or Mord is her hobby .

Cesare Danova was married twice and had two sons with his first wife, British actress Pamela Matthews .

Danova, a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , died of a heart attack during a meeting of the committee finalizing the 1992 Academy Awards .
