action

The film tells the story of the doctor Hélène, who is inattentive for a moment at the wheel of her car and almost causes an accident. Fortunately, the young man was not injured. But Gilles, whose family runs a shabby hotel in Biarritz , falls in love with the elegant, confident woman. From now on he follows her through the city. Hélène's facade of haughty seclusion, which she maintains in everyday life, shows cracks.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films found: “An atmospheric melodrama photographed against the backdrop of the cloud-shrouded Biarritz; in the interplay of coincidences and unhappy dependency, the film develops a series of fluctuating relationships, always remaining on the emotional surface and never questioning the events. "

Anne Rose Katz wrote in the Süddeutsche Zeitung : “It is not the story of a mesalliance that touches us, but rather the characters, including all of the secondary characters, who, in a delicate balance, represent a small cosmos full of fizzling feelings. Lots of injured people who keep inflicting new wounds on themselves, but not deep enough to die from. Director Téchiné expresses the passage of time through journeys, corridors, black screens; and, on the other hand, sets counterpoints of waiting: on socializing, making love, on renovation. This carefully composed sequence keeps the audience's tension alive even after midnight. "

Awards

Sabine Haudepin in 1982 for her portrayal of Elise Tisserand for the César as Best Supporting Actress nomination.
