Gérard Jugnot (born May 4, 1951 in Paris ) is a French actor , director and screenwriter . He has acted in over 70 films, written the script for more than two dozen films and directed nine himself.

Life

In school, Jugnot met his future acting colleagues Christian Clavier , Josiane Balasko and Thierry Lhermitte . With them he later founded the theater group Equipe du Splendid , which appeared in Parisian theaters in the 1980s and made several films , mostly with director Patrice Leconte , including the Les Bronzés film series .

Jugnot had his first major film appearances in 1976 in Roman Polański's The Tenant and in Bertrand Tavernier's Monsieur Klein (with Jeanne Moreau and Alain Delon ). After the dissolution of the Equipe du Splendid , Jugnot initially made two films as a director: Scout toujours and Pinot simple flic . In 1986 he appeared in Leconte's film Tandem , and in 1991 in Les secrets professionnels du Dr Apfelglück . In 1996 he celebrated with Fallait pas ...! , where he shot among others with Jean Yanne , his first great success as a director.

Monsieur Batignole (2002) tells the story of a man (played by Jugnot himself) during the French occupation through Germany, whose daughter is engaged to a collaborator .

As a producer and actor, Jugnot was involved in one of the most successful French films ever, The Children of Monsieur Mathieu , in 2004 .

Boudu (2005) was also a great success for Jugnot. In front of the camera were Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Frot . In spring 2006, the film Les Bronzés 3 - Amis pour la vie , in which the Equipe du Splendid celebrated their reunion,was shown in French cinemas. The film was seen by over 10 million viewers in the first six weeks.

Private life

With the costume designer Cécile Magnan, Jugnot has a son named Arthur, who is also an actor.
