action

The unemployed library employee Juliette and the ambitious journalist Didier have a crisis-ridden relationship, which is mainly determined by the fickle Juliette. She loves Didier, but at the same time pushes him away and cheats on him with other men.

Didier's life turns upside down when he publishes a review of a Bosnian film that he has not seen due to lack of time. Bookseller Martin, with whom Didier is friends, asks him to visit his uncle Lord Ariel Chatwick-West and ask him to support his nephew financially. Ariel was impressed by Didier's work and especially by the film criticism. He was invited to dinner at Ariel's. While eating, it turns out that Ariel doesn't know anything about the invitation. He also exposes Didier in front of all the guests as an arrogant and blasé author who doesn't even bother to see the works he is discussing. Didier leaves, but gets lost in the house looking for the cloakroom and his coat and thus meets Ariel's stepdaughter Aurélie. This is emotionally unstable and wants to seduce him. Just as she is undressing in front of Didier, Ariel walks into the room. He throws Didier out of his house.

Juliette spent the night with TV director Alain, whom she barely knows, but with whom she sleeps. She tells Didier the details, but emphasizes that she loves him and not Alain. When she leaves, Didier rushes after her and is hit by a car. In the hospital he receives a visit from the young star author Jérôme Sauveur, whose work he admires, but whom he also envies for his skills. Jérôme was a guest at Ariel's evening and apologizes for Ariel's behavior. He signs his latest book for Didier - it also contains a card from Aurélie with her phone number. As a result, Aurélie and Didier start an affair, with Didier knowing that she has mental health problems and has even attempted suicide in the past. Since Juliette does not part with him, he stands between two women without making up his mind. When his convalescence celebration turns into a family disaster, he and Aurélie flee to the French Alps. Jérôme and his girlfriend Violaine and later Juliette also arrive here. It turns out that Jérôme used to have an affair with Aurélie. Juliette and Aurélie finally end their vacation in a rush.

Back in Paris, Didier meets with Alain and discovers that Alain has no plans to leave Juliette. Juliette will also stay with Alain. Didier, in turn, continues his affair with Aurélie until another suicide attempt demands a decision from him. She tells him that she loves him. He replies that he is not in love with her. He wants to choose Juliette, but has to acknowledge that she has since left Alain and has now met Jérôme. She intends to go to Florence with him for a few days. Didier tries to prevent the two of them from traveling together; Juliette, however, cannot be stopped. Before she drives off with Jérôme, she gets out of the car again and assures Didier that she is with him and that she hates Jérôme.
