Antoine de Caunes (born December 1, 1953 in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris , France ) is a French TV presenter , actor , writer and film director .

Television career

De Caunes was born the son of the television journalist Georges de Caunes and the television presenter Jacqueline Joubert . Under the pseudonym Paul Persavon , he began to write 2 theme songs for cartoons for the public broadcaster Antenne 2 . From 1978 to 1981 he presented together with the co-moderator Jacky (Jacques Jakubowicz) the music program Chorus , in which they introduced the group Kraftwerk to the French audience . His breakthrough as a comedian achieved de Caunes with the entertainment program Nulle part ailleurs (1987-2001) on the private broadcaster Canal + , in which he appeared until 1995 as a presenter. In the English-speaking audience he was known from 1988 to 1992 as the presenter of the TV show Rapido ; the BBC Two show was broadcast in more than 14 countries. De Caunes' fame increased the half-hour TV magazine Eurotrash , which he hosted together with the fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier . The hallmark of this program was an ironic moderation with a strong French accent on contributions that had European pop culture , lifestyle and trash as their content. With 16 series and 153 episodes broadcast by Channel 4 between 1993 and 2007, the product is one of the longest-running late-night entertainment shows on British television. The pseudo-journalistic feature Naked German of the Week with the model Victoria Silvstedt , in which actors of the German nudist culture were presented, achieved cult status . In 2013, de Caunes presented the program for the presentation of the French national film prize, the César, for the ninth time . Since 2013 he has hosted the talk show Le Grand Journal on Canal +.

Acting

As an actor, de Caunes worked from 1989 to 2009. In the film Men Are Only Women (1998) he played the leading role of the gay Jewish clarinetist Simon Eskanazy . In Claude Chabrol's The Color of Lies (1999) he played the arrogant TV journalist Germain-Roland Desmot . In the French TV drama The Lovers of Cayenne (2004), he played the journalist Albert Londres (1884-1932).

Director

As a director, de Caunes made a particular appearance through Monsieur N. , a British-French fictional film released in 2003 in which Napoleon Bonaparte's years of exile (portrayed by Philippe Torreton ) on St. Helena were described. His comedy We understand us wonderfully (2006), which was released in German cinemas in 2008 , also received media attention .

Private life

De Caunes became the father of actress Emma de Caunes with Gaëlle Royer . From 1997 to 2005 he was partner of the actress Elsa Zylberstein . In May 2007 he married Daphné Roulier, with whom he has had their son Jules since 2008.
