Jamel Debbouze (born June 18, 1975 in Paris ) is a French film actor and comedian of Moroccan origin.

Life

In 1976 Debbouze's Moroccan parents moved with him to Taza , Morocco , but returned to France in 1979 . He grew up in Trappes near Paris. The 1.65-meter-tall actor's right arm has been paralyzed since a train accident in 1990: Debbouze and his friend Jean-Paul Admette were hit by a train passing by at 150 km / h. The parents of Admette, who died in the accident, blamed Debbouze for the death of their son. However, Debbouze was acquitted for lack of evidence.

In the early 1990s he began an acting career and starred in Nabil Ayouch's short film Les Pierres bleues du désert . In France, he became known to a wide audience through the television series H , which was produced from 1998 to 2002 and in which he played the lead role. In Germany he succeeded in doing this with the cinema productions Die fabelbare Welt der Amélie (2001) and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002). For these two roles he was nominated for the César in the category of Best Supporting Actor. For the film Days of Fame Debbouze was honored as Best Actor at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival .

Since 2006 Debbouze has been producing and presenting the “Jamel Comedy Club”, which offers young stand-up comedians a platform. His DVD 100% Debbouze was awarded four times platinum in Switzerland in 2006.

Since 2007 he has been in a relationship with the French television journalist Mélissa Theuriau ; the two married on May 7, 2008. Their son was born on December 3, 2008 and their daughter on September 30, 2011.
