Omar Sy (born January 20, 1978 in Trappes near Paris ) is a French actor and comedian.

Life

Omar Sy was born in Trappes as the son of a Senegalese from the Fulbe people and a Mauritanian . Originally, he wanted to become a technician for heating, ventilation and sanitary technology and go to Senegal. Between 1996 and 1997 he worked for the French radio station Radio Nova , where he met his future sketch partner Fred Testot . Since 2005 he has appeared with him in the television program Omar et Fred on Canal + , which made him famous in France. His international breakthrough came with the film Pretty Best Friends at the side ofFrançois Cluzet . The film not only enjoyed great success in France, where it was the most successful domestic production of the year with more than 19 million viewers. In 2012 he was the first non-white actor to be awarded the César for best leading actor . Sy was seen as the bishop in X-Men: Future Past , the sequel to X-Men: First Choice , in 2014 .

On July 5, 2007, he married the mother of his four children. In 2012 the family moved to Los Angeles .

Sy was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in 2017 , which awards the Oscars annually.
