The La Viershöhe , also called La Viereshöhe , in the Harz Mountains is about 478.9  m above sea level. NHN high rocky elevation on the southern edge of the Bodetal near Thale in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt .

Origin of name

The name of the height is reminiscent of the chief forester La Viers, who was the highest-ranking forest official in the Prussian province of Saxony for the Harz forest areas in the 19th century . La Viers, possibly of Huguenot descent, was more common in this area for hunting. He suggested, in view of the onset of resin Tourism, very early, even before the establishment of the Harz Club , the establishment of trails on.

The La Four level rises in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . Its summit is about 3 km south-southwest of the core town of Thale . Located on the right-hand side of the Bode , it rises high above the deeply cut river valley, into which its terrain drops steeply to the north over rocky cliffs. A little further east is the Hexentanzplatz ( 457.7  m ).

The La Viershöhe belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Harz (No. 38) and in the main unit Unterharz (382) to the subunit Ramberg (382.5). Its landscape falls to the north into the subunit Bodetal (382.4).

Protected areas

The landscape of La Viershöhe falls to the north in the nature reserve Bodetal ( CDDA -Nr. 14446; designated 1937; 4.7561  km² ) and to the north and southwest in the fauna-flora-habitat- area Bodetal and deciduous forests of the Harz border near Thale ( FFH no. 4231-303; 57.73 km²). Parts of the Harz and Vorländer landscape protection area (CDDA no. 20784; 1968; 1587.7836 km²) and parts of the north-eastern Lower Harz bird sanctuary (VSG no. 4232-401; 169.88 km²) are located on the elevation .

Opportunities for viewing and hiking

Due to the exposed location, a vantage point has been set up on La Viershöhe, which is formed by rocks , from which a wide view of the Bode valley, the mountain ranges to the north with the Roßtrappe and the valley to the northeast at the exit of the Bode valley is possible. The small rock plateau of the summit is surrounded by railings and is the location of a bench. Coming from the Bode valley from Gasthof Königsruhe , a hiking trail leads steeply in numerous serpentines through the Hirschgrund up to La Viershöhe and then past the zoo at the Hexentanzplatz to Treseburg .
