Königsruhe is located in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park in the Hirschgrund . It is located around 3 km southwest of the core town of Thale, directly on the Saale tributary Bode , a mountain river of the Harz that has cut deeply into the surrounding mountains, below the Roßtrappe ( 403  m above sea  level ) at around 200  m above sea level. NN . In Königsruhe there is the Gasthaus Königsruhe with outbuildings. Directly to the east of Königsruhe the narrow, stone Jungfernbrücke leads over the Bode. In the direction of Treseburg , shortly after the last building in Königsruhes, the Zinnoberstieg leads to the Zinnoberhöhle to the right .

history

As early as 1820, a citizen of Thaler was selling refreshments to hikers at the Jungfernbrücke . A small sales hut had already been built in 1819. The small path that had been created up until then was expanded by removing some rocks and stones. Here you came across a meter wide and about 100 feet long corridor. A skeleton with a saber and firearm was found in the corridor. The corridor was later used as part of the cellar of the Königsruhe inn. In 1834 the confectioner Christian Jung from Thale in the Hirschgrund in the Bodetal built a wooden hut with a fireplace. In 1856 another larger building followed directly on the bridge over the Bode. At first it was called Hirschgrund . To commemorate the rest of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. On May 5, 1834, the extended inn was named the Hotel Königsruhe in 1875 .

On the night of December 30th to 31st, 1925, during a sudden flood in the Bode valley after the onset of the foehn and heavy snowmelt, the water level of the Bode rose to a level of 4.50 m above normal. There was severe flooding and damage. The Jungfernbrücke was torn away; it was rebuilt in 1927.

The name Königsruhe initially remained for the property until the GDR era . Then, for political reasons, it was renamed Hirschgrund .

In the winter of 1982, exterior and interior shots for the episode In the Valley of the crime series Polizeiruf 110 took place in the Königsruhe inn, which was in need of renovation . In August 1994 a Bauer family bought the property. Since 1995 it has been called Königsruhe again.

Tourism and hiking

Tourism is economically dominant in Königsruhe. The Gasthaus Königsruhe (Hirschgrund 1) with guest house, restaurant and beer garden is approached by numerous hikers on nationally known hiking trails. The hiking trail leads through the settlement, on which one can walk from Thale along the Bode to Treseburg . Up to Königsruhe, the path can also be used with motor vehicles if necessary, but is closed to normal traffic. The Hirschgrund is included as no. 178 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin; the stamp box ( ) is located a few meters northeast of the Königsruhe inn . In Königsruhe there is also a station of the Harz mountain rescue service , which also has an emergency vehicle ready on the hiking trail to Thale.

Attractions

In addition to the impressive nature of the Bode valley, the Bülow monument located at the end of the village in the direction of Treseburg and the Jungfernbrücke over the Bode at the end of the village in the direction of Thale are worth mentioning. There is a plaque commemorating the mountain rescuer Gustav Kowalewski on the hiking trail to Thale .
