action

Jutta Wendler, co-owner of a jewelry store, has just stowed the daily income and the most valuable items on display, including various rings, in the large security box in her living room above the shop and went to sleep when Siegfried Kugler and Günther Baum break into the shop. You use duplicate keys for this - Siegfried is Jutta's former fiancé. He wants to take revenge on her because she secretly left him during his army service and because she married goldsmith Klaus. Siegfried gave Jutta jewelry and expensive clothes during their time together. He sees the break-in, in which he steals money and jewelry worth around 100,000 marks with Günther, as compensation for his expenses. Siegfried believes, however, that Jutta went bowling with her husband that evening, as always. Günther finds her in the bedroom and the angry Siegfried beats her until Günther tears him away. Siegfried threatens to kill Jutta if she speaks, and both men leave. Jutta tells her husband, who appears shortly afterwards, that there was a robbery and that the men wore masks. She recognized no one.

Siegfried and Günther flee to an actually closed holiday home in which they have been living since the day before. The home owner gave them accommodation even though the heating failed in the middle of winter. Residents noticed the strange behavior of the two men after their return from the raid and informed the responsible ABV . When he goes to see the home manager, Siegfried and Günther flee. By chance they meet Siegfried's friend from military service, Werner Ludwig, who takes them to his house. He lives here with his fiancée Erika, who is not very enthusiastic about the visit.

Meanwhile, Jutta's husband suspects that his wife knows the perpetrator. He approaches her about her ex-boyfriend being behind the crime and she confirms it. When she went to Siegfried's apartment the next day, Lieutenant Jürgen Huebner followed her. He too now learns that Siegfried was the culprit. He is upset because Jutta's behavior severely obstructed the investigation. Meanwhile, Siegfried and Günther's getaway car is found in Thale. A ring that was in the car can be identified as a work by Klaus. In the valley they look for the two men and Siegfried, who does shopping for Erika and Werner, finds out about them. He slips Werner 10,000 marks so that he can get him an alibi. He should state that Siegfried and Günther have been his guests for two days. Werner can use the money, as he financially took over the expansion of the old guest house in which he lives with Erika. He agrees to testify for both of them. A little later he hides the rest of the booty with Siegfried. Erika, who both men are suspect, watches the hiding. She secretly takes the rucksack with the booty and puts on all the rings before breakfast. She finally wants to know what is being played. Werner explains it to her, and Erika then insists that both men leave their house immediately. Siegfried announces that he will not leave until evening, especially since Werner has accepted money from him. Erika reacts horrified. When a little later ABV Lieutenant Schlenker rings her doorbell on his morning tour and asks if she had seen two men, she denied it. Siegfried makes it clear to her that with her lie she is now part of the criminal gang. When she wants to go with Werner, Siegfried takes her hostage. Werner and Günther, who had wanted to get out for a long time, are locked in the storage room.

Schlenker, who is doing his inspection round with Jürgen Huebner, is taken aback by Erika's behavior. Normally he always receives a coffee and a root peter from her, but this time she looked closed and unfriendly. With Jürgen Hübner he goes back to the house, where Werner tells him through the barred window in the washroom that he has been locked in and that Siegfried is holding Erika hostage. Schlenker lets Jürgen Huebner enter the house through a window. He himself is looking for a different approach. Jürgen Hübner meets Siegfried in the house and provides him. Siegfried attacks him with a knife, and only at the last second can Jürgen Huebner fend off the attack. Schlenker finally overpowers Siegfried and handcuffs him.
