Peter Gotthardt

Peter Gotthardt (born August 22, 1941 in Leipzig ) is a German composer, musician and publisher. The film melodies he composed (more than 500 in total) are known to a wide audience, including great successes such as the pieces played by the Puhdys When a Man Lives and Walk to Her from the DEFA feature film from 1973 The legend of Paul and Paula under directed by director Heiner Carow .

Life

From 1961 to 1966 Gotthardt studied piano , accompaniment , conducting and composing at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin . In 1965 he wrote his first composition for a documentary by Winfried Junge . A year later he wrote his first orchestral work. In 1968 the first collaboration for the DEFA film The Russians Come with Heiner Carow began , from which five joint films emerged in the following years. From 1975 to 1976 he was also head of drama music at the Rostock Volkstheater.

Since 1976 he has been working as a freelance composer. In 1991 he founded his own music publishing company and has since written various compositions for industrial films. In 2018 he received the honorary award of the German Film Music Award .

Gotthardt has lived in Berlin-Mahlsdorf since 1975 .
