I am a young pioneer is a film that was intended to introduce the six to fourteen year olds to the history of the pioneer organization Ernst Thälmann in an entertaining way. In a newsreel excerpt it was shown how in June 1946 the FDJ's first parliament decided to create groups for children. The Association of Young Pioneers was then founded on December 13, 1948, which is why this day was celebrated as the pioneer birthday every year. This was followed by a look back at the organization of the Red Young Pioneers that existed in the 1920s, which was founded as a children's organization of the KPD based on the Soviet model .
