content

After living in the same house once, the 14-year-old Karoline and the 15-year-old Robbi meet again after a long time in a holiday camp . Over time, a first love develops between the two. But there are many obstacles for them. The daily routine is strictly regulated. The camp manager is strict and only interested in physical exercise. She does not understand feelings - especially those between young people. Therefore she is initially against the supervisor, Mr. Benedikt, who is the only one who understands the young people, to perform the play Romeo and Juliet with the young people for the neighboring LPG . But there are also rivalries within the group of young people. So the girl Marlene has her eye on Robbi and tried to sabotage the relationship between the two. After she slipped a packet of birth control pills under Karoline and then reported them to the camp management, Karoline is said to be sent home because of her precociousness . Only the supervisor Benedikt is of the opinion that these “immoral” things should not be overestimated. The planned theater performance is also banned. Then Karoline runs away, Robi is looking for her. After she was found again, the matter with the pill cleared up. The theatrical performance also takes place, where Karoline and Robbi in the lead roles even move the tough camp manager to tears.

Remarks

Seven Freckles was one of DEFA's most successful productions. In 1978 alone, the film counted more than 1.2 million viewers after its October release. In addition to the story, the natural but harmless nude scenes of the young actors made the film attractive to many viewers. The two main actors in director Zschoche's episodic autobiography Seven Freckles and other memories provide information about these scenes and other memories from the shooting . So we learn that Harald Rathmann showed no interest in Kareen Schröter in real life , but raved about several supporting actresses, including Steffi Kühnert . Marlene actress Janine Beilfuß was very interested in the main actor, according to Rathmann's memories, which Zschoche had published in extracts. Schröter was only able to watch the goings on with disappointment, since she also turned on the tall and well-built Rathmann, but unsuccessfully, as she confesses in a conversation recorded by Zschoche. Kareen Schröter and Micha actor René Rudolph starred in Zschoche's film And next year on Balaton (1980) as Shireen and Jonas again in leading roles.

Reviews

“The fact that this finely conceived story, with its captivating dialogues, turned out to be a wonderful film is thanks above all to the production of Hermann Zschoche, but also to Günter Jaeuthe's camera and Gunther Erdmann's music. [...] You don't have to be young or have freckles to like the film, which treats the vital problems of young people so honestly, courageously and without false shame and with contagious fun. "

“In view of the film photos in the 'International' showcases, I have heard adults say that they would forbid their children to see the film, where is that, fourteen-year-olds naked and they also touch each other. The film [...] deliberately breaks taboos; He shows us: fourteen-year-olds have an erotic feeling, even if they are far more hesitant and tender than some fifty-year-olds might imagine. He appeals to everyone involved in upbringing not to enforce discipline and order at the expense of creativity and sensitivity. [...] Seven Freckles is the DEFA film that is worth discussing recently, and maybe the most beautiful. "

- Jutta Voigt : Sunday 44/1978

"Dramaturgically a bit bumpy, but atmospherically coherent film, carried by casual actors, which depicts the problems of young people sensitively and credibly."
