Janri Kashia

Dschanri Kaschia (also J̌anri Kašia ; Georgian ჯანრი კაშია , born March 8, 1939 in Batumi , Ajarian ASSR , Georgian SSR , Soviet Union ; † March 11, 2012 in Paris ) was a Georgian journalist. The former dissident worked for Georgian television.

Life

The system critic emigrated to France in 1982 , worked at the Georgian-European Institute in Paris and for Radio Liberty in Munich . In 1992 he received French citizenship

In 2003 he returned to Georgia. He hosted three different formats for Imedi TV , including a talk show and a political magazine. After it was canceled because of allegedly little public response, he switched to the Tbilisi radio station Tschweni Radio . From January 2006 he produced the talk show Opponent at 202 TV .

He was married to the former Georgian Foreign Minister and later President Salome Zurabishvili . Like his wife, he had French and, since 2004, Georgian citizenship. After her temporary release from the state office, he helped her to set up the Salome Zurabishvili's public movement organization and the Georgian Weg political party .
