action

One day, violinist Martin Veltin doesn't appear home until one night. He seems to be drunk, is hardly responsive and his Wartburg has a dent in the front. His wife Luise confronts him the next day and Martin confesses to her distraught that he knocked over a woman one night after a concert and left her dead in the ditch. Luise brings the car to the workshop and at a chance meeting with Captain Reichenbach asks if he knew anything about a car accident near Tannenwalde. In the theater, to which Martin's orchestra also belongs, it is rumored that the perpetrator is from the theater. Captain Reichenbach has never heard of such an accident and Lieutenant Jürgen Huebner doesn't know anything either. However, the young Silke Tanner, who plays in a pop band, is missing. She wanted to go to a concert with her friend Axel, but fell out with him. She has been missing for several days and finally her mother files a missing person report with the police.

Martin Veltin actually met after the concert with Silke, whom he had already seen and admired at a concert of her band. They went to eat together and then went for a walk in Saxon Switzerland not far from the rock stage where the concert took place. Silke encouraged him to kiss her. Martin kissed her and fell upon her, but she fended him off. When she spoke disparagingly about his “standing violinist morals”, Martin slapped her. Silke stood too close to the abyss and fell into the depths. Martin now believes she is dead. His knowledge burdens him enormously and so he is unable to concentrate during rehearsals for the Freischütz premiere of the orchestra and ultimately does not even come to the performance because he is always drunk. Axel had followed Silke on the evening of the crime and had observed the scene. He appears at Martin's, pretends to be able to understand his behavior, and demands 10,000 marks from him because the band has suffered financial losses without a singer. Martin pays. He finally confesses the murder to his wife and she tries to cover him up, even if she doesn't believe that Martin only met Silke that evening.

When Silke's pocket is found in the lake below the crash site, Jürgen Hübner and Captain Reichenbach intensify the investigation. More items of Silke's clothing, including a shoe, are found, but no body. It becomes likely that Silke could have survived the fall into the water. In fact, she was able to save herself to the shore and has been to Axel's vacation home on the lake ever since. She wanted peace and quiet and was supported by Axel. Axel should also report to Martin that Silke survived, but he did not. Now, a few days after the accident, Silke returns home. She is surprised that the police are looking for her. She goes to Martin, who is rehearsing on the rock stage. He is shocked when he sees her and flees from her. He has a nervous breakdown and is taken to the hospital. At the police station, Silke is remorseful that she staged her death by staying away, but also admits that she was mad at Martin, after all, after her animation, he wanted to rape her. She is shocked when she learns that Axel Martin has not said anything about her survival, but on the contrary has blackmailed Martin. Axel, however, shows himself to be callous: The money was not for him, but for the band. Immorality must also be punished.
