Petra is a German crime film by Hans Joachim Hildebrandt from 1982. The television film was released as the 78th episode of the Polizeiruf 110 film series .

action

A resident sees a stranger pushing a cart into a quarry lake. The car falls down the steep face and sinks into deep water. The witness alerted the fire brigade and the police, which Oberleutnant Wolfgang Reichenbach sent to the crime scene. When the car is recovered, Reichenbach discovers a woman's corpse in the back seat under car tires. It's about the young Petra Langer. The local resident notices an observer on the other bank of the lake whom he identifies as the man who pushed the car into the lake. The responsible ABV clerk recognizes Jürgen Wittstock, Petra's brother, in the now fleeing man. A little later, Jürgen willfully crashes into a tree. His car explodes and he dies in the flames.

The trail of crime also brings Reichenbach on the trail of a long unsolved case of car theft. The recovered car is one of the missing cars that has been stolen recently. The investigators go to Jürgen's garage , in which clear signs of work indicate that cars were overmolded here and pimped up for later resale. Jürgen cannot have committed the deeds alone, however. It also seems unlikely that he killed his own sister. Petra was slain and did not drown.

Investigators find out through Petra's boyfriend that she had a relationship with another man. In flashbacks , shows that this man Michael Grandel was in Petras LPG regularly picked earth. He built a home with his pregnant wife Elvira , but the marriage was increasingly shattered. Michael disregarded his wife and began an affair with Petra. She and Elvira met at a construction for the construction workers at Grandel's house, and Petra ended her relationship with Michael. She subsequently supported Elvira. At the same time she tried to get her brother back on the right track, but suspected that the convicted Jürgen had gotten back on the wrong track. By chance she learned that Michael was the mastermind behind the car thefts. When both men continued despite the promise to give up their illegal tours, and especially Michael saw no reason to be honest, Petra wanted to go to the police. Michael killed her in his basement when his wife was in the clinic for childbirth . He repaired the basement to cover up traces, but in the end, through Elvira's help, the investigators track down him. When she learns of the death of her best friend Petra, she goes to the police and reports herself and Michael. Michael still tries to deny, but has to admit the act in view of the traces found in his basement.
