Richard Kweku Abusua-Yedom Quarshie ( 1922 - September 1996 ) was a Ghanaian diplomat , businessman and politician.

Career

Richard Kweku Abusua-Yedom Quarshie was of royal African descent and married to Emma Wilhelmina Philips (1917-2004); his son is Hugh Quarshie .

He was one of the first diplomats in Ghana; he was employed in setting up the missions in London and Paris .

From November 22, 1960 to 1967 he was ambassador in Leopoldville / Kinshasa .

On November 22, 1960, he survived twice the use of troops from Mobutu Sese Seko within 24 hours . In 1967 he was ambassador to Cairo .

On July 1, 1968, Quarshie was founding president of the Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation and became president of the Ghana Cocoa Board and local director of Consolidated African Selection Trust Ltd. who operates diamond mining .

From August 31, 1970 to January 13, 1973 he was Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism in the government of Kofi Abrefa Busia .
