William James Remar (born December 31, 1953 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actor .

biography

He was already fond of acting in school. When he was 20, he decided to become an actor and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City , starring in several off-Broadway plays and student films the following year . In 1978 he made his cinema debut in the prison drama Im Gefängnishof . He achieved fame in America through the cult film The Warriors . Subsequently, he was initially cast primarily as a villain, but in films such as Two Women by Carl Schenkel (1989) and Carl Reiner's Crazy Instinct (1993) he was able to show a broader range of his acting skills. Remar also starred in numerous television series, including recurring roles such as the rich seducer in Sex and the City and as the protagonist's adoptive father in Dexter . His work includes around 170 film and television productions.

Remar is married with two children.

In 2012 Remar received the Life Career Award at the Saturn Awards . Together with the rest of the cast of the series Dexter , he has been nominated four times at the Screen Actors Guild Awards .
