The Groomsmen AG (original title: The Wedding Ringer ) is an American comedy film directed by Jeremy Garelick from 2015. The main roles are played by Kevin Hart , Josh Gad and Kaley Cuoco . Despite mostly negative reviews, the film was a box office hit, grossing $ 79 million on a budget of $ 23 million. The film was released in the United States on January 16, 2015. The cinema release in Germany was on March 12, 2015.

Doug is two weeks before the wedding with the beautiful Gretchen, but he is still missing a best man. Finding a suitable candidate is extremely difficult because Doug is not exactly popular and has few friends. By chance he comes across Jimmy, who arranges professional groomsmen with his agency. Since he has promised his bride and her family seven groomsmen, he has to take what he can get. At the wedding it is now important to fool the guests of the longstanding friendship between the men, but the dizziness threatens to be exposed soon.

The film service describes the film as a "reasonably entertaining comedy that mainly relies on wild, senseless and rough slapstick and only convinces in rare moments with witty dialogues". The song of praise to "true friendship ends up being rather pathetic and banal".

Awards

Kevin Hart received BET Awards (Best Actor) and 2015 MTV Movie Awards (Best Comedian) nominations for his performance . At the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2015, director Garelick also received an award in the “Directors to Watch” category. In contrast, Kaley Cuoco won the Golden Raspberry for Worst Supporting Actress in 2016 and Josh Gad was nominated for this negative award as Worst Supporting Actor.

Trivia

At the end of the film you can see Lurch / Garvey (Jorge Garcia) saying to the camera on the plane "I have a bad feeling about this flight". This statement alludes directly to the television series Lost , in which Jorge Garcia also stars.
