Reviews

Mick LaSalle wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle of February 16, 1996 that Denzel Washington's screen presence gave the film that " much needed " pinch of authenticity. However, the film is not gripping.

Kevin Thomas described the film in the Los Angeles Times on August 4, 1995 as " slippery ", " brutal " and " dark ". The “ well-crafted ” special effects can only come from the Hollywood film industry. The film basically addresses the struggle between good and evil in a simple way. It doesn't always reach the audience, but is more mature in terms of film art than numerous less commercial, more demanding films (" it is far more fully realized cinematically than many less commercial, more serious pictures ").

Cinema magazine described the film as a “ virtuoso staged computer battle ” and compared the “ impressively illustrated thriller ” with films like Demolition Man and Terminator . The magazine certified Russell Crowe in " absolute top form ". Denzel Washington appears “ strikingly pale ” in his role .
