The Tooth Fairy ( Toothless ) is an American fantasy comedy film from the year 1997 . Directed by Melanie Mayron , the screenplay was written by Mark S. Kaufman .

action

The film begins with dentist Katherine Lewis remembering her childhood encounters with a dentist. Her father and numerous other ancestors were also dentists. Lewis later became a dentist herself; she becomes professionally successful, but remains unmarried and has few friends.

Lewis dies one day in a traffic accident. Her soul goes to Limbo , where she talks to the local officials. She learns that she must do good works to get to Heaven . If she does not succeed in this she will go to hell . Lewis signs a contract in which she is committed as a tooth fairy and is trained.

Lewis helps the boy Bobby Jameson, who can see her. She finds out that children who still have at least one milk tooth can see them - which adults cannot. She wants to show herself to the adults so that she can help the children more efficiently. The authorities in Limbus warn them. Lewis shows himself to the adults, whereupon they should be taken to Hell by elevator. Surprisingly, she finds herself back on earth and learns that she is getting a second chance. She continues to work as a dentist and meets Bobby.

Reviews

The magazine TV direkt 22/2007 wrote that the film had a "naive, almost childlike charm". The lexicon of international films believes that the film is a “fairytale family comedy”, “which argues in a lovable, whimsical, thoroughly sympathetic way about love, courage and (not just) childlike trust” and “finds it to a hopeful end”.
