Melanie Joy Mayron (born October 20, 1952 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American actress , director , screenwriter and film producer .

biography

Mayron was taught at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts . She made her debut as an actress in the comedy Harry and Tonto (1974) directed by Paul Mazursky . In the television drama Bottom Line (1975) she played one of the bigger roles alongside Jill Clayburgh ; Another larger role at their side followed in the biopic Sag 'ja zur Liebe (1976). In the comedy The Last of the Cowboys (1977), she was seen on the side of Henry Fonda and Susan Sarandon .

The supporting role in the comedy Girlfriends (1978) brought Mayron the Bronze Leopard in 1978 and a nomination for the BAFTA Award in 1979 . In the Oscar- nominated comedy Herzquietschen (1981) she appeared alongside Andy Kaufman , Bernadette Peters and Randy Quaid . In the Oscar-winning drama Missing (1982) directed by Constantin Costa-Gavras , she starred opposite Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek . In the independent comedy Sticky Fingers (1988) she took on one of the leading roles alongside Helen Slater ; she was also a producer and scriptwriter.

From 1987 to 1991 Mayron played in the television series The Best Years ; She also made her directorial debut on two episodes of the series in 1990. She won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in 1989 , and was nominated for another Emmy in 1990 and 1991. In 1998 she was nominated for the Directors Guild of America Award as director of the television program The Wonderful World of Disney (1997) . Her other directorial work includes the television comedy Die Zahnfee (1997) with Kirstie Alley , the comedy Cheeky Beasts! (2002) with Piper Perabo and Jane McGregor and the comedy Zeyda and the Hitman (2004) with Danny Aiello and Gil Bellows .

Mayron gave birth to twins in 1998. Her sister Gale Mayron is an actress.
