Drive Angry is a 2011 American action film directed by Patrick Lussier and starring Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard .
action
John Milton broke out of hell to save his granddaughter from the cult leader Jonah King. His daughter was one of King's supporters. After giving birth to a child, King killed her and her husband in order to sacrifice Milton's granddaughter in a satanic ritual on the next full moon . After interrogating some of King's followers, Milton learns that it will take place in Stillwater, a prison in Louisiana , and sets off. On his heels is a demon wearing a suit who calls himself "The Bookkeeper".
At a dinner , Milton meets the waitress Piper. Later, when Piper breaks down his car, Milton offers to fix it if she takes a piece of it. Arriving home, Piper catches her fiancé Frank having an affair. Piper attacks the couple and is knocked down by Frank. Milton steps in and beats up Frank. He then drives to Smithfalls with Piper. In the evening, the accountant arrives at Frank's and finds out that Milton is on his way to Louisiana in a '69 Dodge Charger . He kills Frank and hires two police officers for his own purposes by posing as an FBI agent and promising a promotion.
During a short hotel stay, King's men ambush Milton and Piper. Milton kills the attackers while he's having sex with a waitress. Before Milton can start the chase, the accountant appears with the police and chases after Milton again. Milton fires the "god killer", an ancient weapon from hell, at the accountant, which throws his car off a bridge. Milton and Piper pursue King into a church and are ambushed. King shoots Milton and kidnaps Piper. However, Milton wakes up again and kills the remaining Kings. After a chase, Piper escapes and escapes into Milton's car, but King escapes with his entourage.
Webster, a friend of Milton, gives the duo a new car. Meanwhile, Piper learns that Milton once had to cast his daughter out to protect her from his own colleagues. However, this made it so easy for King to manipulate it. She also learns that Milton stole the ancient weapon, known as the "god killer", from hell and that the weapon has the power to destroy every soul. Meanwhile, the accountant finds out that Milton is only trying to protect his granddaughter from being sacrificed. Believing to act on the mind of Satan, he chooses to help him before completing his own mission.
When they reach Smithfalls, King is on the verge of killing the baby. However, with some assistance, Milton can kill the cult members. King shoots Milton and orders a woman to murder the child. However, this is no longer mentally capable. Milton can grab his "god killer" to shoot King and destroy his soul. The accountant appears, takes the baby and gives it to Milton. He says goodbye to the baby because he has to go back to hell, and gives it to Piper with the request to raise it like her own child. You and Webster promise they will take care of it.
On the Road to Hell, Milton warns the accountant that one day he will break out again. The accountant replies that he's looking forward to it.

Reviews
The response to the film shows a rather negative rating from both film critics and the general public. While Rotten Tomatoes scored 45 percent positively in 78 reviews, only 38 percent of 35,000 users rated the film positively. On Metacritic , the film received an average rating of 44 percent out of 21 professional film reviews.
Leading actor Nicolas Cage received a nomination for the negative award Golden Raspberry in the worst actor category and, together with his respective film partners, in the worst screen couple category for all three films in which he played the lead role in 2011 ( Drive Angry , The Last Templar Knight , Trespass ) .
“Cage, in the role of the zombie-esque vengeance angel, looks like an unwashed Scorpions member on drug withdrawal and is a parody of his already parodic style, the exaggeration of the exaggeration, which in parts turns into artificial. [...] With this film at the latest, one understands what an American critic meant when he declared that the greatness of the acting is shown in the discrepancy between performance and material. Even if the script is mindless, the direction bizarre and the camera work abysmal, the actor can assert himself. Seen in this light, Nicolas Cage is the best actor in the world because he depicts madness with iron discipline in films that are incredibly embarrassing and nonsensical. "
"With lots of bare skin and shiny chrome, polished up 'trashy' genre mixture of road movie and horror film, which tries to exaggerate its bloodthirsty plot with the visual aggressiveness of a violent 3D dramaturgy."
