action

The petty criminals Cosimo comes for car theft into prison . An old fellow prisoner tells him about a supposedly surefire plan for a break-in (a so-called "Bellini") that he can no longer carry out himself because he has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Cosimo causes his lover Rosalind to get him a scapegoat (a so-called "Mullinski"), who is to be convicted for the crime in his place so that he can carry out the break-in. However, the small crook Pero hired to do so is so clumsy that both are convicted. While in custody, he elicits the mysterious plan from Cosimo before he is released early. Then he tries to carry out the "Bellini" with four accomplices. Pretty much anything that can go wrong goes wrong.

Trivia

Two of the most famous songs by the Italian chansonnier Paolo Conte were used for the soundtrack : Via con me and Comme di.

The original name of the film Welcome to Collinwood, named after the location of the action, Collinwood , a shabby suburb of Cleveland , Ohio . The German title is a literal translation of the original Italian title.

In addition to the Italian original Diebe haben's haben's (original title: I soliti ignoti), there is a similarity to the American film Crackers from 1984.

Clooney and Soderbergh became aware of the Russo brothers while they were filming Ocean's Eleven , and were intrigued by the fact that their material, while also a heist movie, was the exact opposite of their own film because it featured unsuccessful, seedy crooks instead of shows smart, stylish master thieves.

criticism

“The story of classic loser types told from an ironic distance, turning the standard situations of the caper movie into its opposite. Oscillating between sympathy for the fate of its characters and forced bizarre , the film only convinces in places as a comedy. "
