Isaiah Washington
Isaiah Washington IV (born August 3, 1963 in Houston , Texas ) is an American actor .
biography
He grew up in Houston, where he graduated from Willowridge High School in 1981. After serving in the United States Air Force , Washington studied drama at the renowned Howard University in Washington, DC , where he also received his first theater engagement. After completing his studies, he went to New York to expand his theater career there. After a few stage plays, he and colleagues founded the City Kids Repertory - a theater group that performed educational plays in schools and communities.
His entry into the film business was significantly influenced by Spike Lee , who made four films with Washington. He was then occupied by Steven Soderbergh , Warren Beatty and Clint Eastwood . Successes like Romeo Must Die and Ghost Ship followed.
From 2005 he played the role of Preston Burke in the hospital television series Grey's Anatomy , for which he received a Screen Actors Guild Award (a total of three nominations) and two Image Awards for best actor in a drama series . After Washington allegedly made repeated homophobic statements to his homosexual colleague TR Knight in Grey's Anatomy , protests against this behavior erupted in the United States. The US broadcaster ABC, which produced the series, stated that Washington’s behavior was unacceptable and that consideration had been given to removing him from the series. As a result, Washington underwent a week of therapy and met with representatives from lesbian and gay organizations. On June 8, 2007, it was announced that ABC would no longer renew Washington’s contract.
From October 2007 he appeared in the NBC series Bionic Woman , a remake of the 1970s television series The Seven Million Dollar Woman . However, the series was discontinued after only eight episodes.
From 2014 to 2018 he played the lead role of Thelonious Jaha in science fiction - television series The 100 .
He has been married to Jenisa Marie Washington since 1999 and has three children with her.
