action

season 1

The radioactivity of a nuclear war made the earth uninhabitable 97 years ago. In orbit, twelve space stations from different nations then united to form a huge station, the Ark . Due to limited resources, the ward has strict rules and a one-child policy . Any crime committed by an adult that cannot be reversed without consequences, such as: B. wasting oxygen is punishable by death. When it becomes clear that the Ark will only remain for a few months until the oxygen is depleted, 100 juvenile offenders are sent to Earth in a spaceship to find out whether they can live on Earth again using armbands that send signs of life to the Ark can.

Among them is Clarke Griffin, 17, daughter of the Ark's chief medical officer. Problems arise as soon as they land on earth, the connection to the Ark breaks off and the 100 do not arrive at the planned landing site at Mount Weather . Meanwhile, Thelonius, the council president of the Ark, is found shot and his deputy Kane takes over the lead. Bellamy Blake, whose sister Octavia is also among the 100, is identified as the perpetrator. On earth, however, the 100 are not alone, as assumed, but meet other survivors (including grounders) and dangerous mutated animals. Conflicts arise within the group and with the mysterious grounders, which claims first victims.

After all, a war between the Grounders and the 100 can no longer be prevented. Inferior in numbers and weapons, the remaining youths hide in the landing capsule in order to fend off the grounders from there. By igniting the engines, the group can kill most of the attackers. After they get out of the spaceship, a third faction attacks, the technically superior Mountainmen, feared by the Grounders .

season 2

The majority of the remaining youth of the 100 are taken in by the mountainmen and taken to Mount Weather. There the Mountainman live in an underground bunker system as the descendants of some survivors of the nuclear war. The mountainmen take care of the young people and are initially friendly. Clarke distrusts them and flees to find the youngsters who have remained outside the mountain. Meanwhile, Octavia meets the grounder Lincoln and after initial tensions, the two become a couple.

Finally it becomes clear that the mountainmen cannot withstand the increased radioactivity in contrast to grounders and the people of the Ark due to their isolation in the bunker. It also turns out that the Mountainmen use the blood of Grounders to treat radiation, which is the reason for their reputation among the Grounders. However, the blood and bone marrow of the young people from the Ark are much better and also suitable for long-term therapy, so their lives are in danger. However, the leader of the Mountainmen initially refuses to follow this path, even if his advisor persistently pushes it forward. Meanwhile, the adults of the Ark have managed to land most of the station on Earth, Thelonius was left with the ring segment in orbit. Clarke meets the youngsters who have stayed outside the mountain and their mother again. Clarke then does everything in his power to rescue the youths trapped in Mount Weather. To do this, she made a pact with the Grounders to free her prisoners together. As a condition for this, their leader Lexa stipulates the death of Finn, who had previously killed some grounders in order to find Clarke. Clarke then kills Finn to save him from an agonizing death by the Grounders. Bellamy is smuggled into Mount Weather and tries to free the captured Grounders to enable a two-front war. Meanwhile, Jasper has found a friend and ally in the mountainmen girl Maya who is against her people's plans. Meanwhile, Thelonius manages to land on earth with a nuclear missile. He meets the people of the Ark and goes with Murphy on a search for a so-called City of Light, in which all people should be safe.

Shortly before the military attack on Mount Weather, which is supposed to save the Grounders and the rest of the 100, Clarke is betrayed by Lexa, the leader of the Grounders. Lexa makes a deal with the Mountainmen and gives up the remaining of the 100 to save her own people. Inside the mountain, the mountainmen have meanwhile begun to "harvest" the bone marrow of the Ark survivors. Driven into a corner, Clarke and Bellamy then contaminated the bunker system with radioactive air, so that all mountainmen die and only the prisoners from the Ark survive. Clarke leaves the others shortly after, as seeing them would make her feel guilty. Meanwhile, Thelonius arrives at a house where a projected woman welcomes him and leads him to a nuclear missile.

season 3

At the beginning of the season 3 months have passed. Camp Jaha was renamed Arkadia. Abby and Kane take the position of Chancellor together. Raven has had severe pain in her leg again since the explosion in Mount Weather, Jasper finds it difficult to cope with the death of his girlfriend Maya and therefore often reaches for the bottle. Octavia and Lincoln are in crisis as Lincoln joins the Sky People more and more and Octavia feels more attached to the Grounders. Bellamy is now finally accepted as a leader. While the people of Arkadia are largely concerned with their own problems, it is not a war that concerns them.

Meanwhile, Clarke lives in the woods. She is known as Wanheda (Commander of Death). The events in Mount Weather, which she is trying to process, brought her great power and strength. The Grounders believe that whoever kills Wanheda gains that same power. Therefore, Clarke has been on the run since she left Arkadia and lives from hunting. In particular, however, she has to flee from the Queen of the Ice Nation, as she wants to use the power of the Wanheda to start a war against Lexa.

In the second episode, when the people of Arkadia were looking for Clarke, they met more Arker who made it to earth. The group, consisting of 63 people from the farm station, is led by Pike, the former teacher of the 100. Since the group landed in the territory of the Ice Nation, they have already wiped out most of the farm station. Some of the remainder are taken to Arkadia, but also to Mount Weather, because there is more space there. But since large amounts of equipment and weapons are still stored there and the bunker is extremely hated by the grounders because of the events there, the ice nation blows it up with the help of the last survivor of the Mountain Men, Carl Emerson. However, 45 Sky People also die in the process, which radicalizes Pike's group.

Meanwhile, Murphy is trapped in a bunker. As he is going crazy, he decides to shoot himself until the door is opened. Murphy enters the mansion where Jaha is already waiting for him. He is introduced to the ALIE computer program. But he is not particularly impressed, as it was it that detonated the atomic bombs 97 years ago, which almost completely wiped out people. He decides to flee from Jaha and ALIE.

Clarke was captured by the Prince of the Ice Nation, Roan, and brought to the Commander. Clarke only realizes late that this is Lexa. This reveals to her that she needs it to win against the ice nation. Clarke, visibly unimpressed to see Lexa, just spits in her face. She then becomes a prisoner in Polis, the capital of the Grounders.

After much back and forth, Clarke approves the proposal and Arkadia becomes the 13th Clan of the Grounders. Clarke turns down the opportunity to return home so she can serve as an ambassador to Polis.

In Arkadia everything goes haywire. After the remaining residents of the farm station were almost wiped out, Pike is especially out for revenge. He incites the crowd and convinces many that the Grounders are the enemy. He even manages to get Bellamy on his side. If there is a new election, Pike is appointed as the new chancellor. He makes short work and with a group of 10 people mercilessly slaughters the 300-man army that was provided by the Grounders as protection. Only Indra is spared so she can deliver a message to Lexa.

When Lexa gets wind of this, she is about to declare war on Arkadia. But Clarke, who only has the welfare of her people in mind, can change her mind and convince them of a more peaceful way. Lexa experiences great rejection, but she remains true to the new line.

But Pike is not after peace, he wants to wage a war against the Grounders and is sure to win one. Bellamy is on Pike's side. Not even Clarke can change his mind. Meanwhile, Kane makes many attempts to bring the Arkadia residents back to their senses, but that doesn't work.

At the same time Jaha reaches Arkadia again, always accompanied by ALIE. He tries to convince as many people as possible to take the chip. He and ALIE are aiming to fill the City of Light, an invention of the computer program. He manages to pull Raven under his spell, because she wants to be freed from her physical and mental pain.

Lexa struggles hard with the opponents of her new, peaceful line. Her teacher and mentor Titus in particular often tells her that she is making a mistake. He blames Clarke for allegedly influencing the Commander too much because of her love for Clarke. Titus makes short work and tries to shoot Clarke. But he fails and instead meets Lexa herself, who has just slept with Clarke before. After the dramatic death of the commander, Titus cuts the chip out of her, which is known as the commander's spirit. The next commander will appear to be Ontari from the Ice Nation. Neither Titus nor Clarke can allow that, as Ontari is cruel and aims to wipe out the Sky People. He gives the chip to Clarke so that she can search for Luna, the penultimate Night Blood, and appoint her as Commander. Shortly afterwards, Titus kills himself and Clarke becomes the flame keeper.

In Arkadia, more and more people are swallowing the chip without realizing that they are handing over control of their body and mind to ALIE. Raven is determined to have the chip removed; to make her compliant, ALIE lets her relive all the pain she has suffered. Under the torrent of pain, Raven finally collapses, leaving ALIE in complete control. To get Abby to take the chip too, ALIE injures Raven so badly that Abby finally gives in because she wants to save Raven's life.

Meanwhile, Bellamy plans a way to save Kane and Lincoln's lives. His former friends and Octavia do not trust him, which is why they tie him up and make their own attempt. They just fail to free everyone. Lincoln has to stay behind to save his people from death. Pike shoots him in the head in front of Octavia. Thereupon Pike is handed over personally to the Grounders by Bellamy.

Jasper saves Raven from ALIE by drugging her and taking her in a truck. On the way they meet Clarke. After many attempts to free Raven from the chip, Clarke comes up with the solution and she saves Raven's life. The remaining group of the initial 100 make their way back to Arkadia. There they meet Emerson, who is about to kill all but Clarke in revenge. Once again this is prevented by Clarke. You can find a way to stop ALIE in Arkadia.

Meanwhile, Jaha has reached Polis and got almost all of the grounders, Ontari too, to take the chip.

Clarke, Bellamy, Jasper and Octavia make their way to Luna, as Luna is the only way to stop ALIE as the unchipped Night Blood. But she refuses to take up the spirit of the commander, and the group is back at the beginning.

With the help of Roan, Clarke reaches Polis to free Ontari from the chip and then use the Commander's flame. To do this, Roan is supposed to bring her as a supposed prisoner of Ontari, who is then to be gas-stunned by the hidden Bellamy, Murphy, Octavia, Miller, Indra and Pike. But the plan goes wrong. Roan is shot by Kane, the Guard is discovered and Clarke is actually captured.

In Arkadia, Monty and Raven try to hack ALIE when they notice that Jasper has also been chipped and ALIE now knows the whole plan. Jasper tries to stop her and he's about to kill Harper.

Jaha, Abby and ALIE try to torture Clarke into telling her the code for the flame. But she remains strong. Your friends manage to save her. But before she can free Ontari from the chip, Jaha hits Ontari's head with a heavy tool. Ontari is brain dead and can no longer reproduce the all-important code. So everything seems to be lost.

A blood transfusion from Ontari's corpse enables Clarke to use the Commander's flame himself. Then she takes the chip and goes to the City of Light. She meets the ghost of Lexa who helps her to find and eliminate ALIE. ALIE tries to save herself by making it clear that behind her plan there is another, threatening contamination of the world from ailing nuclear power plants and that she at least wants to save humanity by transferring her consciousness to the City of Light. She offers Clarke to rule with her and find a solution. But Clarke replied that a solution would always be found and switched off ALIE. As a result, everyone is immediately freed from the influence of the chip. Jaha and Kane and others break up, horrified by their actions - e.g. For example, people who refused to take the chip were crucified and otherwise slaughtered - completely together.

Season 4

At the beginning of the season it becomes clear that the power plants are not normal nuclear reactors, but fusion power plants, of which there are only a single-digit number worldwide, but whose explosive power and radiation values overshadow everything known so far.

These were installed shortly before the bombs and should actually run for 100 years without maintenance. But they have already been damaged by the war and now the reactors are starting to break open one after the other and send an extremely deadly wave of radiation across the globe. The people on earth are doomed if they cannot find a solution. A nuclear bunker set up by a doomsday sect called "Second Dawn" turns out to be leaky and therefore a failure, but it turns out that "night bloods" are able to survive radiation sickness. Clarke's mother, Abby, is therefore focused on finding a way to night bleed all humans.

At the same time, Polis is forcibly taken by Azgeda, the clan also known as the "Ice Nation", when it turns out that Roan, now the legitimate king of this clan, is still alive. After they are first forcibly detained, Roan lets the "Skaikru" return to Arkadia after Abby and Clarke were able to remove a bullet from him.

Because of this and the merciless exercise of power by Roan's subordinates, the other clans begin to unite against the "Ice Nation", and the "flame", whose possession King Roan's power is supposed to secure, is stolen. Behind it are the "Flamekeepa", the quasi-religious flame keepers. The flame is saved by a trick, but presented to Roan as if it had been destroyed by showing him a smashed "ALIE" chip, which is the same color. At the same time, a group of grounders made up of all clans begins to destroy all electrical and electronic remains, as they hold them responsible for the occupation by ALIE.

Alternatively, since the bunker turned out to be useless, one begins to seal the remains of the Ark in Arkadia again, which, however, would again only give 100 people a safe refuge. Clarke is asked to make a list and a dispute ensues as no one wants to be responsible for deciding who comes on that list. Shortly afterwards, King Roan breaks the alliance with "Skaikru" and the "Trikru" and has all members of both clans present murdered. However, Indra and Octavia manage to escape and alert their clans, but Octavia is seriously injured and not yet reached Arkadia. At the same time the existence of the list becomes known and disputes arise among the “arkers”, which Jaha can settle with the promise of a lottery, which, however, requires that all participants help to seal the ark. At the same time, Abby found Becca's laboratory and began researching the radiation immunity of night blood using Luna as an example.

However, since this can no longer be tested due to Luna’s lack of cooperation and Abby's willful damage to the radiation chamber because Clarke injects the test blood without prior consultation, the laboratory is to be evacuated. Since Jaha did not give up his search for a nuclear bunker and ultimately found one where they would have been least looking for it, namely in the middle of Polis under Becca's laboratory there, a rescue is now in prospect. Since a new commander could end the war between Roan and the other clans, Clarke wants to use the flame, as she has actually had black blood since the injection, which is prevented by Roan. He demands an agreement without desecrating the Grounder faith through a created rather than born commander. The real reason, however, is the knowledge of the warring Trikru and Azgedas about the bunker.

Due to King Roan's multiple breaches of loyalty and changing sides, however, no agreement can be reached that all clans will use the bunker, so a conclave for life and death is called between the leaders or elected representatives of all clans. Luna only takes part because she is of the opinion that humanity deserves no salvation. In the event of her victory, she would not save anyone as her entire clan has already been exterminated.

Octavia can eventually win the conclave by stabbing Luna from behind as the last remaining opponent. As the winner, she announced that all clans would share the bunker and that each clan would be granted 100 seats. During the conclave, however, Clarke and Jaha occupied the nuclear shelter and locked it from the inside, so that from the outside it would only be possible to use force, which would mean, however, that the bunker would no longer offer any protection. Despite Octavia's victory, Jaha and Clarke refuse to open the door because they fear that it will otherwise be overrun.

Octavia and Kane recognize the betrayal and Octavia tries to persuade Bellamy, who was drugged and taken to the bunker during the conclave, to open the door again. This is then locked up by Jaha to prevent the bunker from opening. Bellamy purposely injures himself with his handcuffs so that Abby can take care of his wounds and he can convince her to open the nuclear bunker. Abby gives Jaha an injection to operate the terminal, and Bellamy makes his way to the bunker door, but is stopped by Clarke and threatened with a gun. Clarke fails to shoot him, however, and Bellamy opens the bunker, allowing the Grounders - led by Octavia - to get inside.

Since the Skaikru now has to decide who is allowed to survive in the bunker and who is not, Kane first tries a draw for the free places. However, Jaha does not want to give up the bunker and get to the food supplies through a plan in order to have a means of pressure against the other clans in hand. When a riot threatens to break out among members of the Skaikru, Jaha and Kane use narcotic gas to stun all Skaikru members. Then they use Clarke's list to select the 100 people who are allowed to survive in the bunker, the others are brought out of the bunker.

Jasper and several other teenagers, including Monty and Harper, have since been left behind in Arkadia because they don't want to spend five years in a bunker. A drug overdose kills everyone except Monty and Harper a few hours before the wave of deaths.

Raven manages to heal her brain using a Sinclair imagination by hypothermia for fifteen minutes to cause cardiac arrest and then to be automatically resuscitated.

Meanwhile, Clarke, Bellamy, Murphy and Emori set out to pick Raven from Becca's lab. On the way, however, they get caught in an ambush in which their rover is badly damaged. Echo, who followed the four, kills the attackers, because she hopes to get a place in the bunker on the island, in which Murphy and Emori wanted to seek refuge, as they did not participate in the raffle for a place in "Second Dawn" -Bunkers believed. Bellamy manages to radio call Monty for help, who was just on the way to the bunker with Harper shortly before Polis.

The six arrive at the laboratory and Raven immediately realizes that there is no more time to get back to Polis and the nuclear bunker. The only chance is to fly back to the Arc in space. The six prepare the spaceship in the laboratory.

Shortly before the start, Raven realizes that electricity must be activated in order to survive on the Arc. However, this is not possible due to the defective communication module in the space capsule. However, there is a signal tower near the laboratory from which the signal to activate the electricity can be sent. Clarke makes his way there, but realizes that the alignment of the antenna has to be done manually and that she no longer has a chance to reach the spaceship before it takes off. As Bellamy, Raven, Monty, Harper, Murphy, Emori and Echo leave Earth for Arc, Clarke manages to send the signal from the top of the tower just before the wave of death reaches them. Clarke then runs back to the laboratory, badly irradiated, where she begins to spit blood.

On the Arc, the seven can operate the ventilation system at the last second before they run out of oxygen. They look at the burning earth and thank Clarke for saving her.

Season 5

Six years and seven days later, Clarke tries to radio the Arc again. She has tried this for several years and wonders whether it would even make sense to make further attempts at contact. The bunker in Polis has been buried by building rubble and she lives in a green valley that has been spared together with the night blood girl Madi. Then they see that a strange spaceship is landing which is full of armed people. These occupy the valley. Clarke and Madi fight back. Shortly before, the inhabitants of the Arc discovered the alien ship in space and watched a landing ship take off from there. The inhabitants of the Arc lack the fuel to get to Earth.

In the 6 years Octavia had to prove herself as a leader in the bunker and had to fight, among other things, with a revolt. She is now accepted as "Bloodreyna" and has created a state modeled on ancient Rome, in which every crime is punished with a fight for life and death. As the algae farm slowly degenerates and food becomes scarce, it is taking extreme measures to delay the collapse. Meanwhile, she hopes that somehow she will find a way to get out of the bunker.

After Clarke kills some of the occupiers of the valley, she is caught and only cooperates after Madi is threatened; However, this is still in freedom in the forest. Meanwhile, the crew of the Arc docks to the alien ship and discovers that it is the prison and space mineship "Elegius IV" from the time before the nuclear war. Under the command of ex-Colonel Charmaine Diyoza, the prisoners took control on board and made their way back to earth in cryosleep. However, only a small part of the total of 300 prisoners has now landed. Two members of the Arc crew remain on the ship so that they can have some leverage against the prisoners, namely to kill their friends. The rest of the Arc crew flies to Earth and is rescued by Madi. With their threat, they free Clarke and reach an agreement with the prisoners - they pave a way into the bunker and in return the valley is divided up. Meanwhile, the 2 crew members of the Arc who are on the prison ship wake up all prisoners due to a technical defect in order to save their lives, and with that the crew members of the Arc lose their leverage on earth.

The prisoners on earth now finally occupy the valley and deny the survivors of the Arc and the bunker access, but they force Abby and Kane to come with them. It comes to war, also because Octaiva sabotages every other way, but the attack of the Grounders ends in disaster. Octavia collapses as the leader and finally submits to Madi, who meanwhile - against Clarke's will - carries the flame. Diyoza reveals to Abby that she is pregnant and will do everything possible to protect her child. Another attack succeeds, but Diyoza's competitor McGreary launches an improvised helium III bomb that heads for the valley. Once again threatened with total annihilation, all survivors in the DropShip flee back to orbit. When it becomes clear that it will be at least ten years before life is possible again on earth, everyone goes into cryosleep. Monty and Harper stay awake to assess the situation.

Season 6

When Clarke, Bellamy, and the others awaken from cryosleep, they are greeted by Monty and Harper's son Jordan. You will learn that 125 years have now passed. In a video message, Monty informs her that the earth has not recovered and that he has therefore programmed the ship to the coordinates of another space expedition, Eligius III. They also learn that Monty and Harper did not go to sleep and are now dead. When they look out the window, they see that they are in orbit around an alien moon called Sanctum. After landing on the moon, they soon discovered that descendants of the Elegius mission still survived on it. Their society is ruled by several families worshiped as gods, called primes.

Very quickly it turns out that these "primes" are actually the consciousnesses of the original Eligium members, which are stored on "Minddrives". They take over new bodies at regular intervals, but hide from their followers that they are obliterating the host's personality in the process. They have geared their entire society to survival on their own, but the night blood gene is gradually dying out in their people. Russel Prime, their leader, now sees the night bleeds of the newcomers as an opportunity to solve this "problem", albeit at the expense of the newcomers, of course. He kidnaps Clarke, erases her personality and uses his daughter Josephine's minddrive on her. Since Clarke has already carried the Commander's "flame" before, her consciousness escapes into the neural connections that this chip has left behind. As a result, there is a bitter mental struggle between Clarke's and Josephine's consciousness. Clarke can finally win this struggle and from then on does everything to save her people and especially Madi. Meanwhile she has massive problems as a commander - Sheidheda, the "Dark Commander", a tyrant and mass murderer who once carried the flame, appears in visions. He tries to take over Madi's consciousness and in the end there is no other option but to remove the flame.

Soon after arriving, Clarke and her allies discover that there is a resistance group on Sanctum, the "Children of Gabriel". With their help it finally succeeds in conquering Sanctum, but Russel flees with the remaining primes on the spaceship. Abby previously revealed to Russel how to make night blood as a price for her safety. He in turn breaks his promise to get his wife back, who was killed in this conflict, and to retaliate against Clarke: Russel erases Abby's personality and implants his wife's minddrive in her. When Clarke reaches the ship and learns the truth, she lures the Primes into a trap and throws them all into space. Only Russel stays alive and has to watch the death of all remaining primes.

On the planet, Octaiva and Diyoza, who were never accepted into Sanctum because of their actions, have meanwhile recognized that Gabriel is also a Prime who had renounced his people. He investigates a puzzling anomaly and takes care of all those cast out of Sanctum, but also rejects violent resistance. When the anomaly manifests itself unexpectedly, Diyoza and Octaiva are drawn into it. Octavia returns after a short time, followed by a young woman: Hope Diyoza, the ex-colonel's unborn daughter.

Season 7

Clarke and her people are trying to keep the peace on Sanctum. However, there are always tensions between the remaining supporters of the Primes, the children of Gabriel, the survivors from Earth and the ex-prisoners. Russel Prime remains a prisoner on Sanctum. The anomaly turns out to be a wormhole bridge that leads to another planet where time passes much faster. Eventually it becomes clear that the followers of the "Second Dawn", the earthly doomsday sect that built the bunker in Polis, emigrated over the bridge to a strange planet called Bardo. There, under the leadership of her "shepherd", she is preparing for a final war that is supposed to begin as soon as a certain code is entered into the enigmatic device that controls the bridge.

reception

In the USA, the series was largely positively received; the first season received a 72 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes , based on 72 reviews. The massive use of stereotypes was often criticized.

The Huffington Post wrote, “The series is about moral choices and their consequences; it is commendable that the series has remained true to this basic idea ”. The Hollywood Reporter said "the series expresses the television station's vision of the future: the earth is inhabited by attractive teenagers while their parents have to stay in space".

Differences from the book

The television series is only very loosely based on the book by the author Kass Morgan, whose basic idea was in turn outlined by Alloy Entertainment. The same is the basic theme of group survival, which always has to stand above individual happiness - and life - of the individual. The figure set differs, however, so the main characters Finn, Murphy, Jasper, Monty, Raven and Lincoln were newly created for the TV series. On the other hand, the fictional characters Glass, Luke, Camille, Carter, Graham and Sasha were omitted. The space station Arch (in the book: The Colony ) remains in space not 300, but 97 years. The Grounders (in the book: Earthbornes ) do not appear as tame and good-natured, as in the book, but rather as wild and cruel in the cinematic implementation.
